Solids!!

Analise had her 6 month checkup on Monday, and Dr. See was very pleased and impressed with how well she is doing, both physically and developmentally. We had a worksheet about Analise's development to fill out before we arrived. It had many questions about gross motor skills (can she roll over? does she hold a toy and put it in her mouth?), fine motor skills (does she hold a small toy with just one hand? does she try to pick up a small object like a Cheerio?), conversational skills (does she combine consonant and vowel sounds, like "ba" or "da"?), social skills (does she act differently around strangers? does she smile and babble at herself in the mirror?), and problem-solving skills (does she look for a toy when she drops it? does she try to get to a toy that is out of reach?). Analise now weighs 16 lbs, 3 oz, and is 25 inches long. She had to get more shots, which gave her a little fever last night, but she is doing just fine now. Thankfully, she doesn't have to have any shots at her 9 month appointment.

Analise began the grand adventure of solid foods on the Tuesday after Christmas. She had been watching everyone eat for at least 2 months, so she was very ready to begin! In fact, during the very first feeding, she finished off the entire bowl of rice cereal!! She's definitely Mike's niece. :) We tried oatmeal cereal for the first time last night, and she loved that too. We'll start trying some veggies next week. And now, the first solids, through the eyes of Analise:

Mommy, what is this large thing you're strapping me into?? (she doesn't yet know not to end a sentence with a preposition...we're working on that.)
Ummm....can I get out yet?
And now you're tying something around my neck...am I in trouble?
Hmmm...not too sure about this.

Ooooh! Something for my mouth?! Oh, goodie!
Errr...maybe not. What IS this stuff??
Maybe, maybe...
Ooh, ooh! I like it, I like it!!
Are you sure I can't have some more?
Tah-dah!! All done!
And a few random pictures that have nothing at all to do with eating.
Watch me play piano, Uncle Dan!
The best Christmas tree EVER!!!! :)

Well, hopefully she won't come to me for help with prepositions. I distinctly remember failing that particular exam in Jr. High....

And if she is eating like Mike does and is one relation removed, I'll try not to think what our kids will eat like. I already get strange looks at the grocery store...
