The Delinquent Blogger

I know that I am seriously delinquent in posting. I do apologize. I would claim busyness as an excuse, but I can already hear the snorts from all moms out there: "BUSY?!?! you think you're busy NOW, just wait until your baby gets here!!" So I will simply apologize without excuse and warn you of an extra long post ahead.

For current events, Daniel and I are just waiting, enjoying our last few days or weeks of it being just the two of us together. People keep asking me if I am anxious to have the baby, and I'm never quite sure how to answer. Yes, I am ready to meet our beautiful baby, to hold her in my arms. Yes, I am quite ready to have my body back, to not be pregnany any more. On the other hand, Daniel and I are very much enjoying the last quiet days of having uninterrupted time, both together and separately.

My Gram and Papa from Dallas are in Illinois this weekend, staying with my parents in Springfield. Since I am no longer allowed to travel, they will come see us Sunday afternoon. We're excited to show off our new house to them!

Wednesday is our official due date. If baby girl hasn't come by then, D and I will go in to the doctor (our own doctor very unwisely decided to not plan her vacation around us and so is gone right now, but we have a doctor that has been used by some friends and was recommended...so I suppose we'll survive!) for an ultrasound, non-stress test, and thorough examination. If everything is still fine, they will let me go for another week, but will then schedule an inducement for the 25th. I've decided that this part of pregnancy is especially hard. You have to have a dual mind-set: you have to be ready, because Baby could come at any moment, but you also have to be patient, because it could still be some time. Thank you all for your prayers for a safe and easy delivery. We will keep you all updated!

Now for past events:
On April 19, my two sisters-in-law, Kristina and Marnie, threw me a baby shower in Bloomington. Dan and Marnie drove up from Arkansas, Daniel's parents came up from Mississippi, Anna Fitzsimmons drove over from Champaign, and Janice Grosse (Kristina's mom), Bethany Stewart and Sarah Lynch drove over from Springfield. This shower was for family and old friends (mostly from my growing up days). Although many couldn't be there, they all sent gifts...how wonderful to know that our baby girl is already loved so much! The activity for the day was to paint onesies for Baby. We had a lot of fun doing it, some turned out better than others, and Baby now is supplied with fantastic onesies for a long time! During the shower, all the dads and brothers went to Champaign for a U of I football scrimage (although I can't imagine why they would pass up a baby shower!). Then they all came back and we ate supper together and just enjoyed spending time with all the extended family who were there. The fabulously amazing cake was designed and created by Marnie!!! We were all astounded and had trouble cutting into it...but we managed. It not only was beautiful, but it was absolutely delicious as well. We are all definitely reaping the benefits of having a baker in the family.

My Aunt Mary Ann in California (my dad's sister) made the pillow on the right (obviously the old one!), along with a matching quilt, for me when I was a baby. Now she has made a pillow and quilt for MY baby! They are absolutely beautiful, and a great legacy to pass along. Thank you!
This is Sarah Lynch and Bethany Stewart...two girls from Springfield with whom I grew up. I'm missing the picture of me and my dearest friend, Anna Fitzsimmons, whom I met in college. Hopefully, my dad will send it to me soon! :)
Here is everyone else who came: L-R: Ann Giger, Kristina Sewell, Janice Grosse (Kristina's mom), me, Marnie Sewell, and Claudia Sewell

On the first Saturday in May, Kati Ricker (my dear friend and co-worker), with lots of help from Chrissy Miller and Sylvia Jackson (more dear friends who are in our small group at church), threw us a baby shower in Champaign. We had it at Jim Gould's that morning so that we could all enjoy a fabulous breakfast before I opened gifts. The people at the shower were mostly friends from church, along with one of the workers from our old apartment complex in Champaign and my mom, who drove in from Springfield. My dad drove in with her, and he and Daniel had breakfast at OHOP (for some strange reason, they didn't want to join us at the shower!!), then we all enjoyed the afternoon together at our house.

Such fitting table decor for my child...BOOKS!!

As a final HURRAH, our nursery is finished!!!!! After all of our crib issues, all of our dresser issues, all of our blinds issues...we finally have a beautiful room for our Baby Girl. To give credit where credit is due, both paintings on the wall, the Winnie the Pooh and the Raggedy Ann, were painted by my Gram in Dallas. She is amazing! And the rocking horse was built by my Papa and painted by my Gram for my mom when she was a little girl. A wonderful thing to hand down to our Baby.

Very nice, Elizabeth! Your showers looked like they were fun, and your baby girl now has a room of her own!

Don't forget to take a belly picture before she comes - we want to see you at your huge-est! :-)
